Even though the truck has already debuted, Hummer EV Design Manager John Mack told MC&T that the design is only 98 percent of the way there. Initially the truck was going to receive an Avalanche-esque mid-gate, a feature that was ultimately abandoned. We also already know that GMC tried out quite a few different design ideas for the Hummer EV. It’s clear GMC knew that more than one Hummer EV model was in the pipeline early on. Interestingly enough, this sketch also appears to hint at the upcoming SUV model, thanks to some trailing off lines and that rear-mounted spare tire. That said, the front facia is reminiscent of the production truck, as is the front skid plate. Speaking of the cabin, this truck makes comparisons between the Camaro and a bunker seem a bit overblown. It’s angular, with harsh lines and a very rectangular cabin. That said, the body lines of the pickup scream Hummer in ways that the production model isn’t quite able to. The truck is almost cartoonish in its proportions, particularly when looking at those giants wheels. This ideation sketch published to the GM Design Instagram page shows us a very different take on the GMC Hummer EV. And its polygonal shape is something that could rival the Tesla Cybertruck. Thanks to the folks at GM Design however, we now get a taste of an early Hummer EV exterior design proposal. With unrivaled performance, four-digit horsepower figures, and styling that harks back to the Hummer’s of yesteryear, the truck made a great first impression. When the truck arrived however, both sides quickly quieted down. So we helped build them a cruiser that could go coast to coast while leaving the body alone and focusing on drivability and comfort. Folks who were never on-board with the gas-guzzling giants were also weary, finding it strange that GM would attach the tarnished nameplate to their first electric pickup truck.
